Challenges and Benefits of Interviewing International Students
Interviewing in general can be an arduous and daunting for some; however, one can gain many a great thing from it. Interviewing international students is no different, as it provides one with many challenges and benefits.
Some of the challenges of interviewing international students include languages differences, finding the location for the interview, and scheduling time for it. Language difference can be a large hurdle if either the native language of either the interviewer or the interviewee is not English. Ideas may be difficult to express for either, as well as being able to understanding each other fully. Finding a location for an interview can also be difficult. It may take some time to find a suitably quiet place to conduct the interview. Once a location is found, scheduling a time for the interview may not be easy. One has to work around the schedules of oneself, the interviewee, as well as the times the chosen location is available.
The benefits of interviewing international students are numerous, but a few are making a potential friend and gaining experience with the formal interview process. One may end up interviewing a person that they may never have met otherwise. During the interview, each may find that they have things in common with each other and a bond may form. That is not to say that getting experience with the interview process is any less significant. One may gain a new appreciation into what goes into formal interviews if they are the one to do the interviewing, and especially if the only interviews they have ever been apart of were on the receiving end.
The number of challenges and benefits of interviewing international students are great, but is very likely worth the effort.
